About Course

Pulmonology, also known as Respiratory or Chest Medicine, is a specialized branch of internal medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the respiratory system. This includes the lungs, bronchial tubes, trachea, diaphragm, and chest wall. Pulmonologists are trained to manage a wide range of acute and chronic respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tuberculosis, pneumonia, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and sleep-related breathing disorders like sleep apnea. The field combines both medical and procedural expertise, with pulmonologists often performing diagnostic tests such as bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, and thoracentesis. They play a critical role in managing patients with complex respiratory conditions, especially those requiring intensive care or mechanical ventilation. With rising air pollution levels and increasing respiratory illnesses, the role of pulmonology has become more vital than ever in promoting lung health and improving quality of life for patients.
